Buksky canyon is one of the most popular locations for connoisseurs of beautiful nature in the Cherkasy region. We will tell you why this place is so loved by tourists from all over Ukraine and whether it is worth visiting.
Where is Buki Canyon located?
The canyon begins 800 m below the dam of the former Buki hydroelectric power station. The Vyr waterfall is located not far from the dam. The canyon is an original rocky shore with gray granite outcrops, about 30 meters high. The canyon is more than two kilometers long and 80 meters wide.
Before entering the Buksky canyon, the waters of Gorny Tikich are rapidly rolling down from a block of granite, thereby creating a noisy two-meter waterfall-roll Vyr. A large water mill was built near it in the 19th century, from which only fragments have survived.
The Buk Canyon is a fairly well-known recreational area; it is loved by rock climbers, connoisseurs of kayaking, and simply connoisseurs of beautiful nature. While walking along the Buki Canyon, you can admire the local sights. Among which:
- Abandoned hydroelectric power station. The building of one of the first hydroelectric power plants is now chosen by stalkers and conceptual photographers.
- Abandoned water mill. It was created in the 19th century. Only part of the rotating mechanism has survived, as well as the building itself. And also, the locals make up legends about ghosts in the building of that mill.
- Vyr waterfall. Low – only two meters, and also rather gentle, but still beautiful. And in summer it is very pleasant to swim in the area of the waterfall.
- Lysakovskaya rock. A picturesque rock favored by extreme sportsmen. The height of the rock is 12 meters. As a rule, people jump from it into the water, but we advise you to turn this trick only if you are confident in your preparation.

On the Buki Canyon, you can collect spring water, have a picnic, and just admire the most beautiful landscapes, so atypical for Central Ukraine, arrange rafting down the river on various boats and kayaks, and just take a walk – choose the option that you like. In summer you can swim and swim here: the water is clean and warm. The role of the beach is played by large granite stones. Swimming under the Vyr waterfall has a powerful relaxing and healing effect. Largely because the power of the water flow is comparable to that of the well-known Charcot soul.
The Buki Canyon is a small Switzerland in Central Ukraine or, if you like, a small Scandinavia, because the relief of the canyon is so reminiscent of the well-known Scandinavian fjords.
